Even Tastier Than Kinako Mochi? Pinako Mochi
Today, January 11, is
Kagami Biraki Day
Kagami Biraki (literally “opening the mirror”) is a Japanese custom of taking down the kagami mochi, the stacked rice cakes displayed as a New Year decoration, and eating them to pray for good health throughout the year ✨
Today I’d like to share a really delicious way to eat mochi (rice cakes) 💁♀️
How to Make Pinako Mochi
1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Once it’s bubbling, add the mochi and boil until it’s as soft as you like.

Now for the
Powdered Peanuts!

While the mochi is boiling, mix together 40 g of powdered peanuts, 20 g of sugar and a pinch of salt. (Adjust the sweetness to your taste ♪)
2. Coat the boiled mochi with the peanut powder.
It’s just
that simple,
and yet it’s so delicious ♡
Peanut-powder mochi is ready ♪
Or “Pinako Mochi” for short (peanut + kinako, the roasted soybean flour traditionally used on mochi) 😁 lol

The lovely aroma of peanuts really whets your appetite. It might even be tastier than kinako… 🤭 lol
Please give it a try ✨

Boiled mochi dipped in peanut butter is delicious too ♡
We also recommend topping it with powdered peanuts at the end 👍

*Ordering from outside Japan? When you open a product page from overseas, an English shopping cart (WorldShopping BIZ) appears automatically, so you can order and have it shipped to you abroad.
If you’re more of an oshiruko (sweet bean soup) fan, we recommend our [Peanut Oshiruko] ✨
It’s super delicious too 💁
