[Recipe] How to boil freshly dug raw peanuts.
Freshly dug peanuts cannot be preserved, so they should be boiled immediately and frozen. If you cannot boil them immediately, put them in the refrigerator and boil them as soon as possible within 2 to 3 days. ( Click here for a recipe for boiling large peanuts “Oomasari” )
Ingredients
- Freshly dug raw peanuts・・・・・・・・・・350g
- Water・・・・・・・・・・・・・・1.5L
- Salt・・・・・・・・・・・・・・30-35g (amount to taste)
- A pot
How to cook
Simply add the ingredients and boil.
Put all ingredients in a pot. Cover with a lid and bring to a boil over high heat.
Once boiling, reduce heat to low and boil for about 30 minutes. (Boiling time can be adjusted to your preference.)
3. Turn off the heat and let sit for about 10-15 minutes, then drain into a colander and serve on a plate.

Peanuts are often thought of as hard, but boiled peanuts are very soft! Freshly boiled peanuts are soft and fluffy, while cooled peanuts are perfect as a snack during the hot season.
Storage Method
Boiled peanuts do not keep well for long, so it is recommended to store them in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. If you can’t finish eating them, you can store them in the freezer for a longer period of time.
When are freshly dug peanuts available and how to obtain them?
Freshly dug raw peanuts for boiling are only available from late August to the end of October. They are available at peanut shops, supermarkets, and grocery stores. In areas far from peanut-producing areas, peanuts are less likely to be sold in stores because they are easily damaged. If you mail order peanuts, you can order them by refrigerated delivery.
At Suzuichi, a peanut specialty store, you can order freshly dug jumbo peanuts for boiling called Omasari.
You can also make boiled peanuts from dried raw peanuts.
Freshly dug raw peanuts are not available except from around August to October. However, you can make boiled peanuts by yourself in any season by using “dried raw peanuts” that have been dried from freshly dug peanuts for preservation!
Soak the dried raw peanuts in water for a day to reconstitute them, then boil them for 10 to 20 minutes longer than in the recipe above.

Did you know that there are different varieties of peanuts? Satonoka” is not a “roasted” variety, but a “boiled” variety. It is boiled with only the water contained in the peanuts at the time of harvest, so you can enjoy the rich, undiluted aroma of freshly dug peanuts. The retort type can be stored at room temperature and is very convenient because it does not overpower the freezer.
Retort-boiled peanuts “Oomasari”
The “Oomasari” peanuts are so large that they look good in photographs, and when boiled, they are very tasty and mildly sticky and filling. The peanuts are boiled using only the water contained in the peanuts at the time of harvest, so you can enjoy the rich, undiluted aroma of freshly dug peanuts. The retort type can be stored at room temperature and is very convenient because it does not put pressure on the freezer.
Retort Boiled Peanuts “Chiba no Kaori”
Retort type boiled peanuts are made from dried peanuts and can be stored at room temperature. Basically, it is never out of stock and can be ordered anytime. We have received some comments that the smell of freshly dug peanuts is too strong for the aforementioned two products, but we recommend this one for such people! You can enjoy a taste similar to boiling peanuts at home because water is added to the boiling process.
Frozen boiled peanuts
This product is made by boiling boiled peanuts in a pot and then freezing them. For mail order, you can order them by frozen delivery. Although they need to be stored in the freezer, they are more reasonably priced than retort-packed peanuts. When eating, defrost in a microwave oven for 1-2 minutes. (Not available at our store)
